Edd ROUSH (HOF)

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Now here’s a fella that would chew a first baseman’s arm off if he thought it would give him a jump to second base. Edd Roush was born May 8, 1893 in Oakland City, Indiana. He’s scrappy and combative but directs it all on the opposing team. Known as the game’s greatest place hitter, he swings a full 48 ounces of heavy timber at the plate. If you think he’ll push it to left, he smacks it to right. Get a lazy pitcher and he might just rip it right past the pitcher’s noggin. Last season he led the team to a World Series victory against the White Sox, in part by winning the batting title with a .321 average. It was the second title that he’s taken, the first being in 1917 when he hit .341.
