A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: “Mr. Shortstop” in The Bronx since he took over that position for the Yankees in 1941. Several clubs offered the sum of $250,000 for Rizzuto and second baseman Gerry Priddy when the duo were teamed together with Kansas City in the American Association, but Yanks ended up getting “Scooter” for $65,000. Was born in Brooklyn, graduated high school in Queens, raised a Dodgers fan, but now makes his home in New Jersey.
