Cy YOUNG (HOF)

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: 1909 found 42-year-old “Cy” back in Cleveland, the city in which his Major League career began, when he played for the Spiders. He was traded from the Red Sox for Jack Ryan, Charlie Chech, and perhaps more impressively, $12,500. “Cy” saw 19 wins, 15 losses, and compiled a 2.26 ERA with the 1909 Naps. In total he’s racked up 490 wins, 288 losses, and just might be the greatest pitcher we’ve ever seen. Can he go on forever? Cy” bats right, throws right, stands 6’2”, and these days, won’t set foot on a scale.
