Quincy Trouppe

Biography

From the "This Great Game" card back: They say catchers make the best managers, and Quincy Trouppe serves as strong evidence: he was a star switch-hitting receiver in the negro leagues who went on to win two titles as a manager. He made a brief appearance with the Indians when he was 39, after the color barrier had been broken. “Quincy just came in a little too late,” Bob Feller said, “because he couldn’t get in during his prime. It’s a shame because there’s no doubt in my mind he would have been a very good major leaguer if blacks had been allowed into the big leagues when he was in his prime.”
