The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Casey Stengel and Jimmie Wilson go way back. Wilson’s rookie season with the Phillies came in 1923, the same year Stengel, at the end of his career, starred in the World Series for McGraw’s Giants. Wilson hit one HR in 85 games that year; Stengel hit 2 homers in the Series. Still friendly rivals, they made their debuts as big league managers last year, 1934. With Jimmie as their player-mgr. the Phils ended the season in 7th place while Stengel guided Brooklyn to a 6th-place finish.
