Eiji SAWAMURA (HOF)

Biography

The most revered pitcher in the history of Japanese baseball became a national hero on November 11th, 1934, when he struck out nine batters from the touring United States Major League All-Star team. Four of the biggest names in the game whiffed in succession--Gehringer, Ruth, Gehrig and Foxx. The seventeen year old Sawamura allowed just one hit--a game winning home run by Lou Gehrig.
