Allie Reynolds

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: Not many college pitchers step right into the big leagues these days and find success, but big Allie Reynolds, the Creek Indian from Oklahoma, did just that. While he was at Oklahoma A&M, Reynolds was practicing javelin tosses for the track coach when the baseball coach strolled by. Snap!, just like that, Reynolds was a member of the college nine. The Yankees plucked him from the Indians after the big guy had some arm trouble, but proving his durability, Reynolds has transitioned into the role of ace for the Bombers. Dubbed “Superchief,” Reynolds is famous for his game day superstitions: he must wear the same undershirt, the same socks, and eat the same meal before every game he starts. Whatever he’s doing, it’s working for the strong righthander.
