Sam RICE (HOF)

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Great news for Indians fans--manager Walter Johnson has convinced his favorite outfielder and long-time teammate Sam Rice to follow him to Cleveland for the 1934 season. Sam, who will be 44 this season, played 19 years for the Senators. While he may have slowed down from his prime, he sure knows the game and knows how to win. Not only did Sam play on last year’s pennant winning Washington team but he was a big part of the Senators’ pennant winners of 1924 and 1925. His lifetime average is well over .300 and he is known as one of the most patient hitters in the majors. He’ll be a big help to his pal Walter this coming year.
