Pee Wee REESE (HOF)

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: The Little Colonel from Louisville, Reese has been a stabilizing presence in the middle of the diamond for the Dodgers since his debut in 1940 as a 21-year old. It could have been otherwise, as the Red Sox planned to purchase the entire Louisville club just to get the shortstop, but backed off the idea, allowing Brooklyn to swoop in. Harold Reese was a marbles champion as a kid, hence his nickname, but now he plays for more important stakes, namely the pennant of the National League. Is considered the best at going back on pop flies among the game’s shortstops.
