Bill McKECHNIE

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: While “Deacon” McKechnie may be in his fourth season managing a sub-par Boston team, many older fans will still remember his from his playing days. Bill played 11 years in the National and Federal Leagues with six different teams. A .251 lifetime hitter, his best campaign was 1914 with the Indianapolis Hoosiers. That season he batted .304 as the regular third sacker. He also stole 47 bases and scored 107 runs while the Hoosiers won the pennant by a game and a half over the Chi-Feds. Last year the Braves finished 77-77 under Deacon, and improvment from 1931’s 64-90 mark. Let’s hope Bill can keep the team moving in the right direction.
