Pepper Martin

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: After St. Louis outfielder Pepper Martin demolished Connie Mack’s Philadelphia Athletics in the 1931 World Series, American League ball fans never wanted to see his mug again. But they will when the Cardinals’ one-man wrecking crew, who batted .500 on 12 hits with a HR, 4 doubles, 5 RBI, and 5 stolen bases iin that Series, plays in the mid-season Game of the Century. Martin slumped last year because of a broken finger and a badly infected insect bite, but he is back in form this season playing again like a man possessed. He has switched from the outfield to third base and will start in the big game ahead of the great Pie Traynor.
