Harvey Kuenn

Biography

A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: No fewer than six teams were scrambling to sign Harvey out of Milwaukee Lutheran High School, but the teenager opted to enroll at the University of Wisconsin. With the Badgers, Harvey led the Big Ten in hits and RBIs as a junior. After that college diamond success, nearly every major league team was hot on the trail for the little shortstop. Kuenn picked the Tigers because they were a young club that offered the best chance to play quickly. How does Harvey keep in shape in the off-season? He participates in a bowling league in Milwaukee, where he maintains a 185 average.
