Walter JOHNSON (HOF)

Biography

The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: "He's got a gun concealed on his person. They can't tell me he throws them balls with just his arm," says penman Ring Lardner about young Walter Johnson. Johnson features one pitch, the fastball, which has whistled past many an American League batter these past five seasons. In 1911, “The Big Train” racked up 207 strikeouts. In 1910, he notched 313 whiffs. He achieved 25 victories in both ’10 and ’11 and looks forward to more. The “Big Train” stands 6’1” and is 200 pounds. Rumor is circulating that he is trying to perfect a curve ball.
