The short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Mgr. Joe McCarthy was bitter over the team’s 1928 finish of fourth place and declared that he would have none more of it. Change was in the air, he said, and he’s proved to be a man of his word. In the offseason Joe picked up the best hitter in the world to add to the roster. That man is Rogers Hornsby, he of the magic bat and seven batting titles. He joins fan favorite Hack Wilson in the outfield this coming season. Hack has led the National League in homers for the past three seasons and is practically chewing on his bat in anticipation of the ‘29 season. He feels that new teammate Rogers is just the man to put the team over the top!
