Heinie Groh

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: Heinie has been an everyday player in Cinci now for half dozen years. Usually you’ll recognize his scrappy figure at second base but he plays pretty often at the hot corner as well. When we say “everyday player” we mean what we say. Twice he’s led the league in games, so it’s clear that little can stop him when he’s scooping up the ground balls. As a batter he has an eagle eye; once he’s led the league in hits and once in walks. Twice he’s led in on base percentage. He’s no stranger to the .300 mark; he’s batted as high as .331. He uses the most unusually shaped bat in the big leagues, he designed it himself.
