A short bio from the Helmar “This Great Game” card back: Sends the ball to the plate with a terrifying sidearm delivery that reminds many of Ewell Blackwell. Don is considered one of the meanest men on the mound, unafraid to pitch inside and take command of the inner edge of the plate. The tall righthander from Van Nuys didn’t begin pitching until he was a senior in high school, but his performance was so dominant that he was hounded by a Dodgers' scout until he signed a professional contract.
