Ben Chapman

Biography

A short bio from the Boston Garter Game of the Century card back: The starting left fielder for the American League in the Century of Progress game will be the Yankees’ feisty Ben Chapman. Three years ago as a rookie Chapman played the infield but mgr. McCarthy shifted him to the orchard to take advantage of his speed and howitzer of an arm. The move paid off. The stocky Southerner led the league in stolen bases in 1931 with 61 and again last year with 38. Ben is batting over. 300 again in 1933, as he did in 1930 and ’31. He is not one to tussle with.
