Biography

A short bio from the Helmar-R319 card back: Star of the 1935 Koshien Tournament, the perennial All-Star second baseman is a superb fielder and led the Giants to another Series victory in ’53 with a home run in Game 2. Born in 1919 in the Ehime Prefecture, he came up with the Giants in 1938 and became their regular second baseman in ’39. Known as the Formidable Buffalo, he is a well-respected veteran known for taking younger players under his wing. Has an excellent batting eye.
