Sam Crawford appears in Helmar’s T3 series as a Detroit Tiger, shown in a compact fielding stance with glove set before him and knees bent in readiness. The pose is simple but alert, giving the card an immediate sense of concentration and athletic balance. His pale Detroit uniform, bright blue stockings, and matching cap stand out strongly against the broad green field and clear blue sky, creating the kind of direct, full-figure presentation that suits the grand scale of the T3 format especially well.

The original artwork was painted by Natalia Valiukavich in watercolor. She handles Crawford’s uniform with light gray and cream washes, allowing the figure to retain both softness and structure, while the blue cap, collar, chest emblem, and stockings provide the strongest color accents in the composition. The glove is modeled in darker browns, and the face is built with warmer tones that bring focus to Crawford’s expression. The background is kept broad and open, which gives the figure unusual clarity and preserves the luminous, handmade character of the watercolor medium.

Sam Crawford was one of the great hitters of the Deadball Era and one of the finest players in Detroit history. Nicknamed “Wahoo Sam,” he spent the bulk of his career with the Tigers, where he formed a celebrated partnership in the outfield with Ty Cobb. Crawford finished with a .309 lifetime batting average, 2,961 hits, and a major-league-record 309 triples, a mark that still stands. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1957 and remains one of the most accomplished outfielders of the early twentieth century.

Numbered #28, the Crawford card is one of the key Detroit subjects in the T3 checklist. For Tigers collectors, it adds a genuine cornerstone player rather than a secondary team figure, and Crawford’s enduring triples record gives the card an appeal that reaches beyond team collecting alone.
